The Association of American Dance Est.1936

The Association of American Dance is the Federation that we dance under and we are very proud of it's roots and heritage and how it came about. The Association of American Dance was founded by a group of British and American teachers under the direction of Fred Astaire

and Judy Cholerton with contributions from Gene Kelly,

the aim being to maintain the traditions of authentic American Tap. A graded syllabus was created for this and was such a success that in 1936 it embraced the disciplines of Ballet, Modern and Acrobatics dance forms, later to be joined by a Mime syllabus.

The Association of American Dancing has continued as an examination body concerned with students seeking to become performers and those intending a teaching career. After the loss of the London headquarters in Buckingham Palace Gardens during the War the Association moved to Derbyshire where the work of widening and improving the examination and performing standards has continued
